This years edge class can be summarized in almost two tiers. I feel like there is no clear cut ranking, or even number 1 guy in the class. I think the top 5 could all move around, and I think a lot of the Day 2 guys are moveable along the list as well. It well depend on the teams drafting and what traits they want, because there certainly is a surplus of variety of traits. I do believe if you are a team wanting an edge in this draft class, it might be better if you can get your hands on one of the top 5.

CONS:

Super Raw
DAY 3 GRADE
Crumedy to me, probably projects as a 4-3 DE, but I think there is some good traits here. I don't love everything obviously, but can definitely overpower linemen, and his spin move is pretty solid. He knows how to counter lineman, but he still is raw with his hands and his bend, and doesn't move laterally super well, which is why he will probably be moved inside until he develops that better. I could for sure see him going on day 3.

PROS:

CONS:

Pass rush moves
DAY 3 GRADE
Randolph is similar to Crumedy, except I think Randolph is for sure going to move to DT. I think he has some upside as a pass rusher, but most of his upside resides in defensive tackle traits. He fills gaps along the line and can wrap up ball carriers well, and has violent hands he uses to pass rush. Other than that, doesn't have much of a gallery of pass rush moves, but could definitely develop some to show some promise as an edge.

PROS:

CONS:

DAY 3 GRADE
Jean-Baptiste has a pretty exciting pass rush upside. Being able to have a counter ability is relatively rare in this class from the edges, as it is also important to be able to develop and be productive in the NFL. I think he has a lethal spin move, and his frame and athletic profile makes for a very interesting project for whichever team wants to take him on.
2023 STATS:

PROS:

CONS:

DAY 3 GRADE
Cole has a very high floor, but a pretty low ceiling as a prospet. His ability to disengage with blockers proves his instant value in the NFL, and being able to pursue ball carriers and shoots gaps makes him versatile to NFL teams. However, there's not much physically that is very enticing about Cole, and he seems a little stiff when it comes to making pressure off the edge. I like Cole, and I think he is a super safe pick on day 3.

DAY 3 GRADE
I joined Mcgregor and Watts together because they are the same type of prospect to me. A 6'6 Bull rusher with a good motor, however, is stiff when it comes to bend on the edge. I see both as a 4-3 DE that is good at collapsing the pocket on the quarterback.

CONS:

DAY 3 GRADE
There is some serious potential here with Johnson, as he is a speedy edge player. He displayed a couple good moves in terms of having a solid bull rush, and a good spin move. His speed allows him to have a good first step, but if the first move doesn't work, he is almost entirely taken out of the play. I think with some coaching, and experience his pass rush ability could prove beneficial in the NFL.

PROS:

Bend & dip
CONS:

DAY 3 GRADE
Harrell has a good first step, and can get around a tackle with good bend. When stuck or not generating pressure, he is able to stop on a dime and re-direct extremely smooth. Smooth is a good word to describe him, as I see him making clean plays, however, I don't see much instincts and tenacity rushing the passer or finding the ball carrier.

DAY 3 GRADE
Hunt is a player who will take a lot of risks on the field. He will jump up and try and swat passes a lot, he will try and punch out the ball, and he likes to lay the hammer. In doing so, the results are often inconsistent. He is a risk to have on the field because of this, because he is just average against the pass and run, as he struggles with disengaging lineman. Hunt is a high risk, although high reward player.

DAY 3 GRADE
Tupuola-Fetui is another high floor low ceiling player, that I like very much. He will instantly provide good run defense in the NFL, and possess a good frame to be able to be molded into a pass rusher. However, I see him more of a good run defender, potential of being a great run defender.

DAY 3 GRADE
Jackson is very intriguing from his aggressive playstyle. His bull rush and violent well placed hands make for a scary man to line up against. He doesn't give up on pass rush plays, as he goes until the qb is taken down. However, he will likely only be a specialist, that plays on 3rd downs only.

DAY 3 GRADE
Murphy is a player who plays with max effort, and often shows up on tape on the longer plays as the defender right on top of the qb after a scramble drill. I think he possesses some really good run defense, and even has a pretty effective spin move that works both against the run and pass. I think he likely isn't a good enough pass rusher to play on later downs, as his strenghts lie within run defense and scramble drills.

DAY 3 GRADE
Thomas has some raw untapped power as a pass rusher, that he hasn't tapped into. He is solid enough against the run, and has the get off and bend to get around the edge, but lacks effective moves such as a bull rush, club, or swim move. If he adds to his arsenal of pass rush moves, it could easily give him production.

DAY 2 GRADE
With Eboigbe, what I mean by doing too much is he will often go to unnecessary lengths to make a play that was never there to begin with, like getting too wide with a edge rush when it's a run play. However, his versitility in where he can play on the line, and can offer NFL production against the run and pass.

DAY 2 GRADE
Ceasar has some REALLY good pass rushing potential, as he has good bend around the edge when needed to, and can get active on the interior with a good bull rush move. He can be very disruptive in the pocket on the regular, and his different ways of getting in there are different. However, when it comes to run defense he is kind of lousy. He rarely disengages with blockers in time to make an impact on the run, and doesn't set the edge super well. If a team uses him as a pass rusher only, he can be successful.

DAY 2 GRADE
Solomon is very special physically. He is a little shorter, but he packs a huge punch. He plays with a tenacity that has proven to be extremly effective, as he had 16 sacks in 2023. He is not only a great pass rusher, but he can also set the edge against the run quite well. He doesn't have any great counter moves, so generating pressure beyond his first few moves is a work in progress.

DAY 2 GRADE
Kamara is a very safe day 2 pick this year, as he has some nice physical tools such as long arms and good speed, he doesn't come with much bulk. His twitch and motor is enough for him to get a good amount of production comfortably at the NFL level, but lacks some of the elite bend or pass rush moves to be truly elite. However, Kamara has a high floor in the NFL.

Gabriel Murphy is a slightly better version of his brother, Grayson Murphy. He possesses the same strenghts, in terms of pursuit capabilities, but his bend around the edge and violent hands make him much more effective at getting home on the quarterback. Much like his brother, I can't see him much in run defense, and will likely be saved for later downs.

Dorlus is a super safe pick if you want a guy with versitility to line up all along the line, provide good run defense, and have pass rush potential. He may not have the traits yet to be a elite pass rusher, but they are in there somewhere, and it shows on tape. I wish he had more bend on the edge, but he is so technically refined that it is probably okay.

Elliss is such a solid edge rusher. He is just so solid at playing the position, and does a lot of things right to generate consistent pressure. He has a quick get off, and two elite NFL ready pass rush moves he can choose from to get to the QB. He has a good motor and is smart on th field, making quick decisions to make a play. He has just okay run defense, but it improved over the course of the season.

Booker was a super fun watch on tape. He has the height and length to be a freak edge rusher in the NFL, but also possesses the get off to be quick on the edge and bend to get home on the quarterback. He has an tenacious spin move, and never gives up on the play. With his long arms he is able to grab ball carriers and make plays while engaged with blockers. However, he may need to bulk up for the NFL, and needs to be able to disengage with blockers better. However, Booker is easily one of my favorite players in this draft.

Isaac is stereotypical edge rusher in all the good ways. I can see him lining up wherever he is needed, and has the blend of intangibles and athletic ability to be a really good edge in the NFL. There isn't anything that he does that doesn't get coached out in his first training camp with whatever team that drafts him. His floor is high, but so is his upside.

Trice has tremendous upside when it comes to run defense, as it could be some of the best in the class. He has the speed and power to overwhelm blockers, and be in control of them. It never feels like blockers overwhelm him, which puts him in positions to make plays while engaged with blockers with ease. His speed and power combo is enough to get home on a good amount of downs. He is a bit stiff and slow to play much other than a 4-3 DE, but I think his upside is a super high end, Arik Armstead type.

Braswell is a typical 3-4 OLB who can do it all. Plays all 3 downs, can pass rush, can drop into coverage if needed, and can stop the run. Robinson is the best run defending edge in this class. If you want to improve your teams run defense, this is THE guy you want. He can't be moved easily at all, can get after the QB if needed, and is tenacious. He is a slower guy, but like I said, he is hard to move, so if he is moving towards the QB, he will likely get there eventually. However if you are drafting him you are getting elite run defense.

Robinson is a player who maybe is better described as a dog you just set loose. There is no controlling him, you start him, and his raw athleticism will simply make most plays you ask for. Explosive pass rush, and twitchy and hard to block. Against the run, he knocks back blockers and makes the ball carrier scared. Definitely a raw prospect, so if you would want a more refined pass rusher, he might not be the one, but in terms of raw pass rushing ability, he's one of the best.

Turner will likely with be the first defender drafted this year, and it makes sense. He is much like Verse, but provides good consistent run defense on top of being a freak athlete who consistently generated pressure. However, that's not why he is number 1 on so many people's boards. He is number 1 because he weighed in at around 251 in college. If he bulks up for the NFL, he could be an incredibly more dangerous player than we can imagine, but even if for some reason he doesn't do that, he still has the highest floor of anybody in the EDGE class.
