Now that we are 5 weeks into the season, and this is an opinionated piece, I feel like I can say this season has been disappointing, to a degree. Outside of a handful of cool storylines, nothing really feels interesting enough, nor does the league-wide offense feel strong. Passers are lucky to go over 250 yards in a game, something that does not feel right, injuries are on the increase, and just a lot of ugly games really resulting in us being puzzled by the legitness of teams. There hasn't been any consistent teams, outside of a couple like the Chiefs, Vikings and Commanders, but there are legit concerns there as well. It's not that ridiculous to have concerns, as we've had some really good seasons recently, and I think it can turn around, because there is a chance of a lot of neat and interesting things happening. The NFL is an entertainment industry, and the football being played on the field is the product. I think as a consumer, it is more than okay to complain about the state of the league.
1..Minnesota Vikings (5-0)
-
Another week, another Vikings win. This time, they did it without Aaron Jones, in London, no easy task. London games are often trap games for teams like this, due to the traveling and atmostphere, but the Vikings still looked good, especially their defense, yet again. They made the Jets do exactly what they wanted them to do.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Jets, 23-17
S. Darnold
14/31, 179 Yds, INT
T. Chandler
14 Car, 30 Yds
J. Jefferson
6 Rec, 92 Yds
2..Detroit Lions (3-1)
-
It is well known that I do not move teams on their bye week, unless there is a key change like a significant starter or a coach fired. Lions stick at 2.
Last Week's Game:
bye week
3..Kansas City Chiefs (5-0)
+1
Their first win in 7 wins that didn't come within 1 score, and it was ultimately against Jake Haener in the end. I don't want to discredit them, but, the Saints really beat themselves. I moved them up a spot because I thought the wide receiver room looked really nice against a solid defense. That being said, this is a weak 5-0, you don't assume the top of power rankings simply off record.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Saints, 26-13
P. Mahomes
28/39, 331 Yds, INT
K. Hunt
27 Car, 102 Yds, TD
J. Smith-Schuster
7 Rec, 130 Yds
4..Baltimore Ravens (3-2)Â
+3
This team took a drastic turn the past 3 weeks. They not only beat 3 good teams, they did it in a very commanding fashion. Sure the defense gave up 38 to the Bengals, but I give it a pass since it was a divisional game. This team feels like it is built to win a playoff game, and that is key here.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Bengals, 41-38
L. Jackson
26/42, 348 Yds, 4 TD
D. Henry
15 Car, 92 Yds, TD
Z. Flowers
7 Rec, 111 Yds
5. Houston Texans (4-1)
+1
Much like the Ravens, this team has hit the gas pedal the past few weeks. It started with the comeback against the Jags, and then turned it into a strong victory against a tough Bills team, especially doing so without Nico Collins for most of the game.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Bills, 23-20
C. Stroud
28/38, 331 Yds, TD, INT
C. Akers
9 Car, 42 Yds, TD
S. Diggs
6 Rec, 82 Yds
6..Buffalo Bills (3-2)
-3
The Bills have lost the past two games, and they haven't been super pretty. Got blown out by the Ravens, then lost a close one against the Texans. They were without Shakir their WR1, but a game they could have easily won. I am not jumping off the Josh Allen train however, because this team can and still will continue to make some noise.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Texans, 23-20
J. Allen
9/30, 131 Yds, TD
J. Cook
20 Car, 82 Yds, TD
K. Coleman
1 Rec, 49 Yds, TD
7..Washington Commanders (4-1)
+6
I mean I can't keep them out of the top 10 anymore. Jayden Daniels is playing like a seasoned vet, and is arguably on pace to have a stronger rookie campaign than Stroud did last season. My concern for this team was the defense, but they have been about middle of the pack thus far into the season. This team will continue to beat the bad teams, but I am genuinely interested to see how they fare against a top team in the league. I guess we'll see next week.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Browns, 34-13
J. Daniels
14/25, 238 Yds, TD, INT
J. Daniels
11 Car, 8 Yds
T. McLaurin
4 Rec, 112 Yds
8..Tampa Bay Bucs (3-2)
-2
Overtime losses sting in the regular season, especially in a shootout like Thursday Night was. That is why they stay in the top 10, as they were arguably a coin flip away from winning that game. I still think this team has some absolute fire.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Falcons, 36-30
B. Mayfield
19/24, 180 Yds, 3 TD
R. White
10 Car, 72 Yds
C. Godwin
5 Rec, 64 Yds
9. Seattle Seahawks (3-2)
-4
That was a really bad loss for Seattle. They just let the Giants front 7 dictate the entire game. Geno was sacked 7 times, although that doesn't mean he is absolved of wrong doing. This was a total team failure, which is why I am not going to drop them too far. This is still the best team in the west right now, and I think they prove that Thursday night.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Giants, 29-20
G. Smith
28/40, 284 Yds, TD
G. Smith
4 Car, 72 Yds
T. Lockett
4 Rec, 75 Yds
10. Green Bay Packers (3-2)
+4
Jordan Love scares me, because I don't know what guy is going to show up on Sunday. He almost alternates between playing like Farve, and playing like Rodgers, it is so bizzare, but he definitely needs to start taking better care of the football.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Rams, 24-19
J. Love
15/26, 224 Yds, 2 TD, INT
J. Jacobs
19 Car, 73 Yds, TD
T. Kraft
4 Rec, 88 Yds, 2 TD
11. Atlanta Falcons (3-2)
+8
I still am not totally sold on the Falcons yet, but this was a good first step. I want to see them not win a nail biter that could have easily gone the other way. I would also like to see them start running the ball a little better, as they are 26th in rush yards/game.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Bucs, 36-30
K. Cousins
42/58, 509 Yds, 4 TD, INT
B. Robinson
12 Car, 61 Yds
D. London
12 Rec, 154 Yds, TD
12. Philadelphia Eagles (2-2)
-
bye week, plus they get both AJ Brown and Devonta Smith back.
Last Week's Game:
bye week
13. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2)
-4
Is it time to make a QB change? The offense didn't look too great, but Fields wasn't terrible either. A really tough decision to make, and likely soon before the AFC North wakes up.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Cowboys, 20-17
J. Fields
15/27, 131 Yds, 2 TD
N. Harris
14 Car, 42 Yds
N. Harris
2 Rec, 35 Yds
14. Dallas Cowboys (3-2)
+1
I am quite frankly disgusted by the disrespect that was thrown the Cowboys way after that win. Give the Cowboys their flowers, they went into Pittsburgh against a really tough defense and persevered. Good teams find ways to win, and the Cowboys did just that.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Steelers, 20-17
D. Prescott
29/42, 352 Yds, 2 TD, 2 INT
R. Dowdle
20 Car, 87 Yds, 2 TD
J. Tolbert
7 Rec, 87 Yds, TD
15. San Francisco 49ers (2-3)
-4
The Niners don't look like themselves. It is probably a CMC thing, but regardless, they need to find a way to start winning games without him soon, or else they could fall behind in the NFC West.Â
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Cardinals, 24-23
B. Purdy
19/35, 244 Yds, TD, 2 INT
J. Mason
14 Car, 89 Yds
B. Aiyuk
8 Rec, 147 Yds
16. Los Angeles Chargers (2-2)
-
bye week.
Last Week's Game:
bye week
17. New Orleans Saints (2-3)
-7
An ugly loss where they beat themselves, and with Carr hurt, they had to drop quite a bit. However on the bright side, It seems Rattler will be the starter, which can be a good thing, as they were excited by his play in camp and the pre-season.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Chiefs, 26-13
D. Carr
18/28, 165 Yds, 2 TD, INT
A. Kamara
11 Car, 26 Yds
R. Shaheed
4 Rec, 86 Yds, TD
18. Chicago Bears (3-2)
-
Be careful, because Caleb Williams is looking better and better each week. It was the Panthers, but that was a very good all around win. I want to see one more week of improvement before I buy into it.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Panthers, 36-10
C. Williams
20/29, 304 Yds, 2 TD
D. Swift
21 Car, 73 Yds, TD
D. Moore
5 Rec, 102 Yds, 2 TD
19. Indianapolis Colts (2-3)
-2
Is there really a need to rush Flacco out of a job right now? The offense has looked way better the past 2 weeks without Richardson, and with them being 2-3, they need to get on track to winning games, and I think maybe you ride with Flacco at least one more week to see what he can do with the offense.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Jaguars, 37-34
J. Flacco
33/44, 359 Yds, 3 TD
T. Sermon
10 Car, 38 Yds
A. Pierce
3 Rec, 134 Yds, TD
20. Arizona Cardinals (2-3)
-
A really nice win against the Niners, however, I am not taking the bait again. I think this team needs a little more juice on offense, and I think Trey Benson is that person.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Niners, 24-23
K. Murray
19/30, 195 Yds, TD, INT
J. Conner
19 Car, 86 Yds
M. Wilson
5 Rec, 78 Yds
21. Denver Broncos (3-2)
+1
This is a pretty weak 3-2 team. I'm not trying to be harsh, but there is not much offense going on here. I think the defense is even better than it was last year, but this offense needs to get Sutton and Reynolds more involved.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Raiders, 34-18
B. Nix
19/27, 206 Yds, 2 TD
J. Williams
13 Car, 61 Yds
J. Williams
5 Rec, 50 Yds
22. Los Angeles Rams (1-4)

The Rams need this bye week more than any team has needed a bye week in a long time. They need to get healthy and figure some stuff out on defense.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Packers, 24-19
M. Stafford
29/45, 260 Yds, TD, INT
K. Williams
22 Car, 102 Yds, TD
J. Whittington
7 Rec, 89 Yds
23. Cincinnati Bengals (1-4)
+1
Joe Burrow has arguably been the best QB in the entire league thus far, the recievers are healthy and going, and even the run game is solid. However that defense, is terribly bad. There needs to be a change on the defensive side if they want to recover from 1-4.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Ravens, 41-38
J. Burrow
30/39, 392 Yds, 5 TD, INT
C. Brown
12 Car, 46 Yds
J. Chase
10 Rec, 193 Yds, 2 TD
24. New York Giants (2-3)
+3
Daniel Jones is playing very, very well this far into the season. He's not turning it over, and he is being efficient on offense, and they just went into Seattle without their top weapon, and won. That win was either a fluke, or the start of a potential turn around for the G-men.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Seahawks, 29-20
D. Jones
23/34, 257 Yds, 2 TD
T. Tracy
18 Car, 129 Yds
D. Slayton
8 Rec, 122 Yds, TD
25. New York Jets (2-3)

I don't want to say I called the Saleh firing, nor that it was deserved at this moment in time, because it is very odd to terminate him week 5 at an okay record of 2-3, BUT... I did kind of see it coming. Saleh never really proved himself as a great head coach. Was that a problem? Sure. I think the bigger problem was having to accommodate your entire franchise for a QB that has been extremely lackluster throughout this season so far.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Vikings, 23-17
A. Rodgers
29/54, 244 Yds, 2 TD, 3 INT
B. Hall
9 Car, 23 Yds
G. Wilson
13 Rec, 101 Yds, TD
26. Miami Dolphins (2-3)

It is incredible that this team has 2 wins. Truly.
Last Week's Game:

J. Wright
13 Car, 86 Yds
T. Hill
6 Rec, 69 Yds
27. Las Vegas Raiders (2-3)

And this is the team that is rebuilding that we all expected. I think it's hard to swallow your pride and tank, but, absolutely they should. Trade Adams, trade Meyers if you have to as well. Get draft picks and get your QB next year.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Broncos, 34-18
G. Minshew
12/17, 137 Yds, TD, 2 INT
A. Abdullah
5 Car, 42 Yds, TD
B. Bowers
8 Rec, 97 Yds, TD
28. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-4)

I think deep down we all knew they were bad, but they were never bottom of the league bad. Lawrence and the Jags really needed that win, and they got it. Is it the start of a season turnaround? No, probably not.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Colts, 37-34
T. Lawrence
28/34, 371 Yds, 2 TD, INT
T. Bigsby
13 Car, 101 Yds, TD
B. Thomas Jr

I mean, I think if you are the Browns and you keep losing, do you consider a QB in the draft?
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Commanders, 34-13

J. Ford
9 Car, 47 Yds

So are we going back to Bryce Young being the starter? Because it literally couldn't hurt anything.
Last Week's Game:

Well, Jerod Mayo doesn't read Rico's Sports Show, as last week I pleaded they don't throw Maye into the fire, and that is exactly what they are doing next week. I still think it is a terrible idea.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Dolphins, 15-10
