Well, things are still very uncertain in the NFL landscape, but some truths are starting to reveal themselves among teams. There is a lot of movement in general this week, even if it is just a couple of spots, or over 10. There may be some overreactions, but I feel confident that this is my most accurate ranking going into week 3.
1..Kansas City Chiefs (2-0)
-
The Chiefs don't move this week, and I think they are relatively lucky. I am not going to point out officiating, (although there was likely holding on the last play) but the Chiefs have now had back-to-back weeks where they sort of get outplayed but still come away with the victory. They got outgained by both the Ravens and Bengals, and lost the turnover battle in both as well. Typically, you want to have more yards and less turnovers than the other team, yet here the Chiefs stand at 2-0. Clearly there is a lot to clean up, as Mahomes is coming off one of his worst games of his career, Kelce has been a non-factor for two weeks, and now Pacheco is out for a little while. For their sake, they better hope the Falcons aren't coming with a lot of momentum Sunday night.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Bengals, 26-25
P. Mahomes II
18/25, 151 Yds, 2 TD, 2 INT
I. Pacheco
19 Car, 90 Yds
R. Rice
5 Rec, 75 Yds, TD
2..New Orleans Saints (2-0)
+13
Well... that was quite the jump. I get it, it seems like an overreaction, but look at it this way: Derek Carr only threw teh ball 16 times this game. They weren't even at full firepower offensively, and they hung 44 on a very good cowboys defense. Not to mention, their defense plays outstanding with a lead. This team is just simply too well coached to not give them the respect they deserve. Are they going to keep putting up 40+? Probably not, but there isn't really a reason they would slow down either.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Cowboys, 44-19
D. Carr
11/16, 243 Yds, 2 TD, INT
A. Kamara
20 Car, 115 Yds, 4 TOT TD
R. Shaheed
4 Rec, 96 Yds, TD
3..Houston Texans (2-0)
+1
One might look at the boxscore of their game with the Bears and wonder why they got moved up at all, but the Texans were in complete control of the game the entire time. That defense might've given Caleb Williams nightmares.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Bears, 19-13
C. Stroud
23/36, 260 Yds, TD
C. Akers
7 Car, 32 Yds
N. Collins
8 Rec, 135 Yds, TD
4..Buffalo Bills (2-0)
+3
This Bills team kind of reminds me of the Chiefs last season. You have a top-end QB who can make plays when needed, a very strong running game, and a solid defense. It is obviously a recipe for success, we'll see how the Bills execute it throughout the season.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Dolphins, 31-10
J. Allen
13/19, 139 Yds, TD
J. Cook
11 Car, 78 Yds, 3 TOT TD
K. Shakir
5 Rec, 54 Yds
5. San Francisco 49ers (1-1)
-3
I'm not sliding the Niners down because they lost to the Vikings. They were in it till the end, and the Vikings weirdly own the Niners. I am moving them down, because of the injuries to CMC and Deebo. Someone has gotta step up, and step up soon, before they fall behind in the NFC.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Vikings, 23-17
B. Purdy
28/36, 319 Yds, TD, INT
J. Mason
20 Car, 100 Yds, TD
D. Samuel
8 Rec, 110 Yds
6..Detroit Lions (1-1)
-3
The Lions offense is raising some concerns so far this season, and for good reason. Goff hasn't been as efficient as he can be, and their big play splashes nor their redzone efficiency is there either. I'm not sounding the alarms though, as the offensive line is too good, and the defense absolutely showed out, especially Hutchinson.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Bucs, 20-16
J. Goff
34/55, 307 Yds, 2 INT
J. Gibbs
13 Car, 84 Yds
A. St. Brown
11 Rec, 119 Yds
7..Tampa Bay Bucs (2-0)
+5
Now you could wonder why the Lions are above the Bucs, even though the Bucs beat them. Well for one, that's not how power rankings work, you won't see me putting the Raiders in front of the Ravens. Secondly, that was an incredibly close game, and I do think the Lions would win a rematch. That's nothing against the Bucs however, who I think are sniffing the top 5.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Lions, 20-16
B. Mayfield
12/19, 185 Yds, TD
B. Mayfield
5 Car, 34 Yds, TD
C. Godwin
7 Rec, 117 Yds, TD
8..Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0)
+2
The Steelers really only slide up by default of other teams moving around them. I do worry about the offense however, as only putting up 13 on the Broncos is a little concerning. I wonder what/when there will be a QB change in Pittsburgh.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Broncos, 13-6
J. Fields
13/20, 117 Yds, 1 TD
N. Harris
17 Car, 69 Yds
P. Friermuth
4 Rec, 39 Yds
9. Baltimore Ravens (0-2)
-4
That was a very ugly game from start to finish for the Ravens. Never got a huge lead, and when they did get a nice lead, they blew it. The offense looks rough, and when the defense is allowing the Raiders to claw back into games, then there is some very serious concern for this team.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Raiders, 26-23
L. Jackson
21/34, 247 Yds, TD, INT
D. Henry
18 Car, 84 Yds, TD
Z. Flowers
7 Rec, 91 Yds, TD
10. Philadelphia Eagles(1-1)
-4
Nick Sirianni is holding this team back from being the juggernaut of the NFC.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Falcons, 22-21
J. Hurts
23/30, 183 Yds, TD, INT
S. Barkley
22 Car, 95 Yds
D. Smith
7 Rec, 76 Yds, TD
11. Dallas Cowboys (1-1)
-3
To be completely fair, the Cowboys got absolutely blindsided by the Saints. No one really expected them to do that in that way to them. However, there is some things that the Cowboys are going to have to improve on, and mainly the run game. Your leading rusher can't only have 30 yards.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Saints, 44-19
D. Prescott
27/39, 293 Yds, TD, 2 INT
R. Dowdle
7 Car, 30 Yds
C. Lamb
4 Rec, 90 Yds, TD
12. Los Angeles Chargers (2-0)
+2
This team looks really clean. Harbaugh has this team coached up so well, it is hard to imagine this team was a laughing stock last season. Good challenge though for the bolts next week with the Steelers.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Panthers, 26-3
J. Herbert
14/20, 130 Yds, 2 TD, 1 INT
J. Dobbins
17 Car, 131 Yds, TD
Q. Johnston
5 Rec, 51 Yds, 2 TD
13. Cincinnati Bengals (0-2)
-2
Well on one hand they played better than expected, and were very close to winning. On the other hand, it is really easy to feel depressed by this team. No running game, and the receivers were an almost non-factor in this one.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Chiefs, 26-25
J. Burrow
23/36, 258 Yds, 2 TD
Z. Moss
12 Car, 34 Yds
M. Gesicki
7 Rec, 91 Yds
14. Arizona Cardinals (1-1)
+9
I could be overreacting, but this could easily be a top 5 offense in the league. If they can put it together and get some chemistry going between the main pieces, no one will want to face this team.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Rams 41-10
K. Murray
17/21, 266 Yds, 3 TD
J. Conner
21 Car, 122 Yds, TD
M. Harrison
4 Rec, 130 Yds, 2 TD
15. Seattle Seahawks (2-0)
+4
I'm not completely sold on the Seahawks. Geno played a solid game, but he didn't week 1. I don't know what Geno is going to show up on Sundays, and without K9, the offense looked pretty rough. However, the defense is still very, very solid.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Patriots, 23-20
G. Smith
33/44, 327 Yds, TD
Z. Charbonnet
14 Car, 38 Yds, TD
D. Metcalf
10 Rec, 129 Yds, TD
16. Atlanta Falcons (1-1)
+2
That was the type of win that can light a fire under a team to go on a win streak. I wouldn't be surprised either, they have a great roster, and a great Head Coach, they just need to start clicking, and when they were clicking on that last drive, it was insane.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Eagles, 22-21
K. Cousins
20/29, 241 Yds, 2 TD
Bj. Robinson
14 Car, 97 Yds
D. Mooney
3 Rec, 88 Yds, TD
17. Green Bay Packers (1-1)
+3
Just simply outcoached the Colts. Willis looked pretty good for a back-up, and my faith in this team is restored.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Colts, 16-10
M. Willis
12/14, 122 Yds, TD
J. Jacobs
32 Car, 151 Yds
R. Doubs
3 Rec, 62 Yds
18. Minnesota Vikings (2-0)
+4
I really can't tell if the Vikings are legit or not. Their defense is playing good, and Darnold is making all of the throws. I am still on the fringe with them, but don't be suprised if one more W sends them flying up the power rankings.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the 49ers, 23-17
S. Darnold
17/26, 268 Yds, 2 TD, INT
T. Chandler
10 Car, 82 Yds
J. Jefferson
4 Rec, 133 Yds, TD
19. Los Angeles Rams (0-2)
-10
These injuries are absolutely killer. This is an absolute nightmare turned real-life for the Rams, who lose both Kupp and Puca in back-to-back weeks.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Cardinals, 41-10
M. Stafford
19/27, 216 Yds
B. Corum
8 Car, 28 Yds
D. Robinson
2 Rec, 50 Yds
20. Indianapolis Colts (0-2)
-7
A really ugly loss. The passing game has to develop if this team wants to have a real chance at making a wild card spot.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Packers, 16-10
A. Richardson
17/34, 204 Yds, TD, 3 INT
J. Taylor
12 Car, 103 Yds
A. Pierce
5 Rec, 56 Yds, TD
21. Chicago Bears (1-1)
-4
7 sacks is unacceptable for a rookie QB. I honestly can't blame him for any of the mishaps on offense. The running game also needs to be way better, Swift for 18 yards is not going to cut it. That being said, this defense kept them in it the entire game.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Texans, 19-13
C. Williams
23/37, 174 Yds, 2 INT
D. Swift
14 Car, 18 Yds
D. Moore
6 Rec, 53 Yds
22. Miami Dolphins (1-1)
-6
To be fair, I was going to move them down regardless of the Tua injury, this just moves them down a little further. I think even if Tua returns at full health this team is starting to spiral.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Bills, 31-10
T. Tagovailoa
17/25, 145 Yds, TD, 3 INT
D. Achane
22 Car, 96 Yds
J. Smith
6 Rec, 53 Yds
23. New York Jets (1-1)
+1
A pretty solid team win. Rodgers is slowly but surely figuring it out again, and I think this team can absolutely rely on the run with their two-headed mosnter.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Titans, 24-17
A. Rodgers
18/30, 176 Yds, 2 TD
B. Hall
14 Car, 62 Yds
G. Wilson
4 Rec, 57 Yds
24. Las Vegas Raiders (1-1)
+2
I think the Raiders proved that while yes they are rebuilding this season, they are not going to be an easy out. They are far too talented across the board to simply be an easy W.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Ravens, 26-23
G. Minshew
30/38, 276 Yds, TD, INT
Z. White
9 Car, 24 Yds
D. Adams
9 Rec, 110 Yds, TD
25. Cleveland Browns (1-1)
-
Just a really mediocre game. The offense looked pretty rough, and the defense mainly just held the doo shut on a team that was trying to beat itself. Can't move them up nor down.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Jaguars, 18-13
D. Watson
22/34, 186 Yds
J. Ford
7 Car, 64 Yds
J. Jeudy
5 Rec, 73 Yds
26. New England Patriots (1-1)
+2
This team is much like the Raiders in the sense that they are going to be a tough out. Only difference is the Raiders are too talented on offense, and the Patriots are too talented on defense. They really had a solid shot at starting off the year 2-0, unreal.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Seahawks, 23-20
J. Brissett
15/27, 149 Yds, TD
A. Gibson
11 Car, 96 Yds
H. Henry
8 Rec, 109 Yds
27. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2)
-6
This team does not have an identity whatsoever. I think the Jags are going to be in for a rough season, and I think that playoff/ Super Bowl window is as good as shut.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Browns, 18-13
T. Lawrence
14/30, 220 Yds
T. Etienne
13 Car, 52 Yds, 1 TD
B. Thomas Jr.
2 Rec, 94 Yds
28. Washington Commanders (1-1)
-1
Although they beat the Giants in week 2, they didn't get in the endzone once. They really only won simply because the Giants didn't have a kicker. I will say, I really do like what I am seeing from Jayden Daniels though.
Last Week's Game:
Beat the Giants, 21-18
J. Daniels
23/29, 226 Yds
B. Robinson
17 Car, 133 Yds
Z. Ertz
4 Rec, 62 Yds
29. Tennessee Titans (0-2)
-
No meme from Will Levis this week, but another costly turnover. Levis is the difference maker for this team's success, and he just needs to protect the football.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Jets, 24-17
W. Levis
19/28, 192 Yds, TD, INT
T. Pollard
17 Car, 62 Yds
C. Ridley
4 Rec, 77 Yds, TD
30. New York Giants (0-2)
+1
Giants slide up because I thought the offense looked more like an actual NFL team this week. The defense has talent, and they could have easily won this game had they had a kicker.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Commanders, 21-18
D. Jones
16/28, 178 Yds, 2 TD
D. Singletary
16 Car, 95 Yds, TD
M. Nabers
10 Rec, 127 Yds, TD
31. Denver Broncos (0-2)
-1
I understand that Nix is a rookie, but when you come in the NFL as the most NFL-ready QB prospect, I kind of expect a more NFL QB performance. That being said, he does have an abysmal roster around him to work with.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Steelers, 13-6
B. Nix
20/35, 246 Yds, 2 INT
B. Nix
4 Car, 25 Yds
J. Reynolds
4 Rec, 93 Yds
32. Carolina Panthers (0-2)
-
It incredibly saddens me that the Young era for Carolina is over. Hope he gets a fresh start somewhere else.
Last Week's Game:
Lost to the Chargers, 26-3
B. Young
18/26, 84 Yds 1 INT
C. Hubbard
10 Car, 64 Yds
T. Tremble
3 Rec, 23 Yds
