Week 5 is in the books, and overall, not a ton of movement on the power rankings. There were some upsets, and some big games, but nothing that is causing any drastic movement along the rankings. However, there still is some movement like always, so let's get to it.
Yes, the Panthers are in last, but I don't think it is anything on Bryce Young. He still looks somewhat comfortable as an NFL QB, but I think the roster around him, and especially the head coach. I think all of the rookie qbs got a good landing spot for their NFL careers, except for Young, (I think the Seahawks would have been perfect). I am dissapointed in the franchise, especially since it didn't have to go this way.
Give credit where credit is due, Justin Fields has played well through the past 2 weeks. However, it was against the Broncos defense, and the Commanders, so I can only move them up one spot. Curious times in Chicago at the moment.
The Patriots, what happened? Things have been on a downward spiral since Brady left, and I think that this game kind of summarizes that. They likely need to tear it down and rebuild, with or without Belichick.
The Giants are also an interesting case moving forward, what do they do from here? I don't really know what the strength of this team is, they can't run the ball super well, they don't trust their recievers, and I have no clue about defense, as they got their first turnovers in this game. I'm not so sure that they should rebuild, but it certainly is an interesting case in New York.
I don't think it's a good look to be losing to Gardner Minshew. I think we finally are seeing the tiers of teams, and the Titans are certainly in this bottom tier. This team won't commit to a rebuild, or even a young QB, so I am a little concerned that this team will be trapped in mediocrity, because they do still find ways to win some games,
You lost to the Bears, I have to drop you some spots. They are also in the tier where you have to consider some sort of rebuild, because I think the defense has a good foundation, and the offense is close, so maybe you don't have to commit to a rebuild.
I held out hope last week that the defense would get some pieces that could help out, but it didn't. They let Zach Wilson and Breece Hall march down the field just about every drive of the game. I don't think you can say anything negative against Russ or Sean Payton right now, as the offense isn't bad, and Russ is performing like a top 10 QB in the league. There is only so much you can do when the defense gives up an average of 250 rushing yards, that is on the Defensive Coordinator, 100%. Does this team need to tear it down and rebuild? Not really. I think this year will be a wash if they keep Vance Joseph around, but if they don't they probably could turn it around, but I don't know if the 1-4 hole is too deep to get out of. I think there is a plus to be made with this season, and it's that Russ is still good. Obviously Payton is going to want his own guys, and if you give him 2 offseasons and potentially a great set of draft picks after this year, and Russ's secon year in the system? I think you don't need to tear it down, I think if you are a Broncos fan, finally enjoy watching good QB play, something you haven't seen since Manning.
I'm not surprised the Jets won, but it doesn't change the predicament the Jets are in. This roster is in a win-now situation, and I don't think they will make the playoffs let alone win 1 with the QB room they have now. I think they have 2 options: Wash this year, move onto the next and hope Rodgers doesn't slip and get hurt again next year, OR, sellout for Cousins for half a season. If it were me, I think your odds are better going for Cousins this year rather than wait around for Rodgers where you might lose some guys.
I seriously don't have any clue on how to evaluate this team. I think they aren't good? but then they pull of an upset, so I have no clue where to put a team like this.
In the latest episode of Chiefs squeak out a win against a lesser team, the Vikings are the victim. I won't talk about the penalties at the end of the game that potentially altered the outcome, the Vikings played a close game, considering they were pretty much without Jefferson, to be in that spot to potentially win the game is pretty impressive.
Maybe I jumped the gun on the Cardinals putting them at 17, but they were playing well. This week, they played the role of giving the Bengals a potential get-right game. They may be the best 1-4 team, and they might mess around and not do this tanking thing correctly, but they are still 1-4, so they still have a great shot at Caleb.
This team drops after a win, because they may have lost Anthony Richardson for awhile. I like the Colts this year, just not neccisarily led by Gardner Minshew.
I will try my best to not move teams on bye weeks, unless an injury or acquisition of a player will happen, and I will likely not write about them as well.
Wow, this is a pretty bad 3-2 team. They won maybe the ugliest game of the year thus far, and the offense still looks bad. The defense was okay, but that was only more because the Ravens offense made so many mistakes.
Pretty ugly loss to the Raiders on Monday Night. There has been some questions about Jordan Love and if he is actually good, I think he is, and I think he'll figure it out. This team is still building up to a good squad, so I'm not terribly surprised that they lost a weird game.
Was this the get-right game that the Bengals needed? Maybe, I can't say for sure. If this team wants to compete this year, they need to do what they did in Week 5 and more. Luckily for them, 2-3 isn't the worst record they could have, but they could get back to the top of the AFC this year, but it's going to take even more work.
I really don't know how to diagnose this team, are they a playoff team? Are they getting lucky wins? I like their roster quite a bit, especially their defense which powered this win. As of right now, 16 feels like a comfortable spot for them.
I did not expect to put the Saints this far up, but here we are. I think they played excellent football this week, and having Kamara back is pretty huge for this team. I think I like this team the most out of any team in the NFC South.
Although they lost to the Eagles, the Rams slide up due to other teams falling and rising. This team has the best WR duo in the league, end of discussion, they are going to win a good amount of games.
They may have lost this past week, but this team is going in the right direction. Stroud is setting records, the defense is getting it's footing, this team is not finished this season, and will easily contend for the AFC South.
This team is supposed to be good, but I feel like a different team shows up to the field every week. When this team is good, it is really, really good. But when it's bad, it loses to the Steelers 17-10.
I mean, they played the Niners, what do you expect. The cowboys didn't look good this past week, but considering their competition, I am only dropping them one spot.
They squeaked past the Vikings this past week. This team is 4-1, but they don't feel like it. They are pretty solid on defense, but the offense makes me scratch my head quite a bit, because it is wierdly not very good.
The Jaguars won a pretty meaningful game in London, beating the Bills. I am really impressed and I think moving them up to 6 as I think it's what they deserve for winning this past week.
The Lions don't move on the power rankings, as they beat the worst team, but did it without St. Brown. I think they will sit tight at 5.
The Eagles are like the Chiefs, playing pretty dissapointing football, but have really good records. The defense is just letting teams back into games. I have more confidence in the Eagles than the Chiefs simply because of their roster, but still concerned nontheless.
The Dolphins have the most yards of any team in NFL history through the first 5 weeks. I don't know why more people aren't making a bigger deal about this offense.
They played in London, that is basically homefield for the Jags. I don't take the loss away from them, I still think they are the best team in the AFC.
The Niners beat 1 of the 2 threats in the NFC, and not only beat them, demolished them. This team is in a tier of its own, no one is close to them. I don't want to say anything else because I don't want to potentially jinx them, but yeah, duh they are the best team in the league.
